Oman’s MDO Launches Mazoon Copper Project

Mazoon Mining, a subsidiary of Minerals Development Oman (MDO), has officially broken ground on the Mazoon Copper Project in Yanqul, Al Dhahirah Governorate. This landmark project aims to meet rising global copper demand while establishing Oman as a key center for high-quality copper concentrate production.

Covering 20 square kilometers, the Mazoon Copper Project is Oman’s largest integrated copper production venture, comprising five open-pit mines with an estimated 22.9 million tons of copper ore reserves. The project will also feature a state-of-the-art processing plant spanning 56,000 square meters, designed to process 2.5 million tons of copper ore annually and yield 115,000 tons of copper concentrate per year with a copper grade of 21.5%.

Construction of the processing plant is slated to begin in early 2025, with copper concentrate production expected to start in early 2027.
