Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar) has strengthened its contribution to the global energy transition, with its 2025 sustainability performance highlighting continued growth in renewable energy, emissions reduction, green finance and biodiversity initiatives.
Through its global portfolio, Masdar helped avoid 19.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions during 2025, reflecting the growing impact of its expanding clean energy operations.
The company’s total portfolio reached 66.5GW by the end of 2025, including 20.7GW from secured projects and developments approaching final investment approval. The reporting boundary was also expanded to include Saeta Yield and TERNA ENERGY for the first time, providing a broader view of Masdar’s global sustainability performance.
The company continued to demonstrate the potential of combining renewable generation with energy storage to deliver reliable power at commercial scale, supporting the wider integration of clean energy into electricity systems.
Strengthening Green Finance
Masdar also expanded its access to sustainable finance during the year, issuing a US$1 billion green bond in May 2025. The issuance was oversubscribed 6.6 times, generating investor orders of US$6.6 billion, with international investors accounting for 85% of the bonds.
The transaction increased Masdar’s total outstanding green bonds to US$2.75 billion, supporting investment in renewable energy and other eligible sustainable projects.
Advancing Biodiversity and Workforce Development
Biodiversity protection remained another important area of focus. Masdar strengthened its environmental assessment efforts through the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT), conducting 23 targeted surveys and establishing three conservation partnerships.
The company also reported an Emiratisation rate of approximately 46%, excluding international operations, while employees worldwide completed 250,000 hours of health, safety and environmental training.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate Masdar’s continued focus on expanding clean energy capacity while integrating environmental protection, sustainable finance, workforce development and responsible business practices into its global operations.
