Cutting maintenance costs by 60%: Burckhardt Compression’s innovative solutions for PTT Global Chemical

Burckhardt Compression recently assisted PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTT) in reducing maintenance costs and improving operational reliability at PTT’s Rayong plant in Thailand. The team addressed technical issues on PTT’s LDPE production line by executing rapid diagnostics and precise repairs on a Hyper Compressor K10.

PTT, a leading polymer manufacturer, was experiencing operational disruptions due to fretting marks on the compressor’s distance piece and small end pin. These issues caused unscheduled shutdowns, excessive vibration, and accelerated component wear, leading to increased maintenance costs. Moreover, PTT faced a strict timeline for the repairs and aimed to maximize part reuse to support their sustainability goals.

As specialists in parts repair and refurbishment, Burckhardt Compression identified the root cause of the component damage and implemented a sustainable solution. The company’s local workshop in Thailand performed the necessary machining in-house, significantly reducing both transportation time and costs. All repairs met stringent quality standards and exact tolerances. To adhere to the project’s tight schedule, Burckhardt Compression operated day and night shifts, maintained effective communication between on-site and workshop teams, and prepared a backup facility to prevent delays.

As a result of this targeted intervention, PTT saw an impressive reduction of approximately 60% in maintenance costs. The refurbished parts now have an extended service life of at least two years, significantly improving the reliability and sustainability of operations by reducing waste and minimizing the carbon footprint through part reuse.

“We were amazed by the level of performance achieved! Burckhardt Compression quickly identified the problem and carried out the repairs with great precision. Given the outstanding results of this project, we plan to involve Burckhardt Compression in many more overhaul projects at other facilities.”
