Global motor manufacturer, WEG is set to host an exclusive webinar titled Smoke extraction motors: The hidden heroes of fire safety on July 15th, 2025. This session will explore the essential yet often overlooked role of smoke extraction motors in fire safety systems, highlighting their critical performance during emergencies and the engineering behind their reliability.
The session will begin with an introduction to smoke extraction systems. Rafael Massabki França, Internal Commercial Manager (LV) at WEG Middle East, will discuss the significance of regulatory compliance, the engineering challenges involved in designing these specialised motors and their operational performance under extreme conditions such as high temperatures and continuous duty cycles.
As part of the session, WEG will showcase the W22 smoke extraction motor, which has been specifically designed to withstand extreme conditions and deliver reliable performance in high-risk environments. The motor can operate at temperatures up to 400ºC for two hours, delivering uninterrupted performance in subways, tunnels, shopping malls, high-rise buildings and industrial facilities. These features ensure compliance with international fire safety standards, including EN 12101-3.
This motor enables rapid smoke and heat extraction in emergency situations, delaying fire propagation and providing clear escape routes for building occupants. To meet the diverse needs of fire safety ventilation systems, the W22 smoke extraction motor comes with several customisation options, such as loose terminal boxes connected through flying leads for flexible installation and a pad-mounted design for more compact applications.
“These motors must continue to operate in extreme conditions to help clear escape routes, improve visibility for emergency responders and maintain air quality in high-temperature environments,” said Rafael. “Through this webinar, we aim to shed light on their life-saving capabilities, ensuring engineers and decision-makers understand their importance in modern buildings.”
Whether you are an engineer, consultant or stakeholder in building safety, this webinar will provide valuable insights into the importance of smoke extraction motors, their key features, industry standards and real-world applications. Attendees will also gain exclusive insights into technological advancements and how these motors are evolving to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with industry experts.
