Expert Insights: Atlas Copco Power Technique’s Electrical Technician, Sabelo Dube, explores the true merits of exceptional customer service

Having successfully attained his National Diploma in Engineering, his Electrical Trade Test as well as his Wireman’s Licence, Sabelo kicked off his career journey at Atlas Copco, proudly joining the PTS team on 1 December 2023.   

Service flows through Sabelo’s veins, fuelling his commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience. “The PTS team adds tremendous value for our customers, contributing to the sustainability of their business,” asserts Sabelo. “By performing service and repairs according to OEM specifications, we assist our customers in maintaining high quality work through well-supported Atlas Copco equipment. We offer quality parts that leads to a quality service.” Sabelo strongly believes that rapid service delivery to minimise downtime, coupled with consistently keeping customers informed about job progress, form the cornerstones of outstanding service.”

Equipped with a laptop and an assortment of tools and instruments, Sabelo leverages his six years of technical experience to expertly install, repair, inspect and commission machines for Atlas Copco customers. “I also draw on my twelve months experience as an educator to share knowledge and provide electrical training and support to technicians locally as well as in other African countries,” adds Sabelo.

Sabelo is particularly excited about Atlas Copco’s new advanced VSD compressor that is reshaping the future of compressed air. “Atlas Copco is continually introducing enhanced technologies to improve product efficiency and reliability. The PTS team therefore plays a key role in ensuring that Atlas Copco’s evolving products remain relevant in the market.” He also points out that the Service division is a revenue generating hub for the company.

Sabelo expresses that the professionalism of the PTS team is what he values most working at Atlas Copco. “We operate in a collaborative environment where mutual respect and expertise unite to enhance service delivery for our customers.”

Before deep diving into his daily responsibilities, Sabelo explains that a typical day revolves around problem-solving, which, along with reading and teaching, he regards as essential qualities for a successful career as an Electrical Technician.

Electrical work is inherently hazardous and requires steadfast attention to safety at all times. When handling electrical systems, Sabelo prioritises safety measures, always adhering to the biggest safety rules – open, isolate, test, earth and / or insulate before touch. “To ensure complete accuracy, I tackle electrical issues in power equipment by utilising the equipment’s wiring diagram together with relevant measurement instruments.” Reflecting on a particularly complex and challenging issue he successfully resolved, Sabelo recalls the on-site programming of a Power Management System on a TwinPower generator in accordance with the customer’s specifications.
