Barloworld Equipment Delivers Southern Africa’s First Cat 707 Wide Body Trucks

Barloworld Equipment has delivered the first two Cat® 707 Wide Body Trucks (WBT) in Southern Africa to a mining customer in South Africa’s Northern Cape, marking an important milestone for both the Caterpillar dealer and the regional mining industry.

According to Barloworld Equipment, the delivery forms part of a customer-focused fleet replacement programme aligned with PDMI Level 9 readiness requirements, while reinforcing the company’s commitment to providing safer, more productive and technologically advanced mining equipment.

The Cat 707 WBT has been selected for its proven reliability, production capability and ability to support demanding mining applications. The two trucks are equipped with VisionLink® connectivity, enabling real-time fleet monitoring, equipment health tracking and data-driven insights to improve operational efficiency, maximise equipment availability and support informed maintenance planning.

Barloworld Equipment said the delivery reflects its ongoing partnership with customers seeking modern fleet solutions that improve safety, productivity and long-term operational performance.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that support our customers’ operational goals while helping them prepare for the future of mining,” the company said, while also recognising the efforts of its Bloemfontein regional team in successfully completing the landmark delivery.

Introduced by Caterpillar in January 2026, the Cat 707 WBT has been engineered to deliver high productivity, durability and low operating costs in demanding quarrying and mining environments. Designed around a fully integrated Cat powertrain, the truck combines a Cat C13 engine, Cat automatic transmission and proprietary Cat axles to maximise performance and reliability.

With a maximum payload of 66 tonnes, the Cat 707 is available in both standard and heavy-duty configurations, with body capacities of 40 m³ or 42 m³, allowing customers to match the machine to varying material types and site conditions.

The truck is built on a reinforced chassis designed for long service life and high equipment availability. Combined with Caterpillar Customer Value Agreements (CVAs), the platform is intended to help customers maximise uptime, extend component life and support long-term ownership value.

Depending on emissions requirements, customers can specify either the 400 kW Cat C13B engine, which complies with China Nonroad Stage IV standards, or the 358 kW Cat C13 engine, which meets emissions levels equivalent to US EPA Tier 3. Both engine options include a high-capacity engine brake, while an integrated hydraulic retarder is available as an option to further enhance braking performance.

The Cat 707 also features proprietary Cat axles, integrated powertrain controls and Caterpillar electrical systems designed to improve machine reliability and simplify maintenance. Three levels of braking and retardation—including the integrated engine brake, optional hydraulic retarder and service and parking brakes—provide enhanced control on downhill haul roads, improving operator safety and supporting faster, more efficient haul cycles.

To optimise loading efficiency, the Cat 707 is designed to work seamlessly with Caterpillar’s 986, 988 and 988 XE wheel loaders, as well as the 350, 374 and 395 hydraulic excavators, enabling mining operations to maximise productivity across the loading and hauling cycle.

The delivery of the first Cat 707 WBT units in Southern Africa reflects the growing adoption of advanced haulage solutions as mining companies continue to invest in modern fleets that enhance safety, productivity and operational efficiency.
